Then purchased the City Navigator to extend the use of the device on land during the winter months. I originally purchased the hand-held device to be used in navigating my sailboat over the Great Lakes. I am ready to tackle any trip - on land or sea. I purchased the Garmin City Navigator North America NT "chip" to be used in my Garmin GPSmap 76 CSx. It is fantastic. My winter job takes me all over the state of Wisconsin and the "land chip" gets me there.
Mapquest, Google, even Tomtom all have my street address but not Garmin.Likewise, points of interest that have been around 1 to 2 years were not always found. My home address in a subdivision that is 5+ years old is still not available on the map. With the price of GPS' dropping fast and Garmins lack of most current updates, I probably avoid buying updates from Garmin again. I updated my Garmin Nuvi which had a 2008 NA map using the SD card version, no problems loading. However, I was disappointed to find this map has marginal updates. Again, I checked a 2010 Tomtom GPS and it had the hotels, restaurants I was looking for.
Overall, though, a really good and useful product. The street maps were up to date, even with recent street name changes. This micro SD card by Garmin really expands the capabilities of my Vista Hcx. I've used it on trips to Canada as well as the Northeast and Southwest United States, and it's been almost infallible. The alerts for turns could come a little sooner--if the speed limit is 45 or higher, sometimes the alert sounds when you should already be in the turning lane.
Now I only use my TomTom for long trips in the car. If you are a geocacher.you can't beat having the actual roads on your Oregon. I never even pull out the other GPS for Geocaching. I really wasn't sure if I would lose the topo data with the streets.but I did not. My only fault with it is minor.
I decided on the SD card. Streets on top of the topo data. I use my Oregon for everything else. There does not appear to be a simple way to upgrade the data.but I don't need hyper-accurate maps. I had gotten the topo map as a download but wanted the streets on my Oregon for Geocaching.
I put in the card, turned on my GPS and it worked. Could not be easier to install and use.
It works without any problems. I am using this SD Card on my Nuvi 710 that I bought in the UK. Did take a minute or 2 to read the card and switch over, I did have to go change my time zone.Great product
